Q: I am in a good job that pays the bills. I have a good working environment despite the COVID-19 circumstances, and I would like to progress in my career. Lost my job, now what?

Q: I have been in work for 24 years. I had a stable job, and no desire to change. Due to COVID-19 and other issues, the company has offered me a redundancy next month. Remember, it takes two to tango

The bloodied boxer stumbled back to his corner at the end of the round and muttered that “I was doing grand until he hit me”. Job interviews might feel that way too: like the mice and the men, you can lay your plans quite brilliantly, only for an interviewer to throw you off with the first punch, writes Ines Gonzalez, Career Coach, Sli Nua Careers.

Time management – finding balance, productivity and health

Q: I’m having a tough time finding the right balance in my days during COVID-19, when I’m working from home. I seem to be constantly worried that I am not getting enough done, not to mention not getting enough of the right stuff done. I thought my time management skills were good, but I’ve lost faith in them. I’m all over the shop. I can’t ever switch off and I feel less productive than I ever did. Any suggestions? (DC, email).

Home work is bringing me down

During COVID-19, I’ve been holding down a full-time job from home while looking after small children. I am too stretched to focus properly on my work. The quality has certainly diminished. I feel this will hurt my promotion prospects. My husband or male colleagues aren’t in the same situation. What can I do about this? (DF, email).

Getting up to speed on LinkedIn

Q: LinkedIn – I don’t know what to make of it. I’m told that I need to be on there, and I am, but just about. I have a profile that I haven’t kept updated and I never put up a post. Now and then, I might comment on a post, but that’s the height of it. I have run my own business most of my life but that has gone under and I need to get myself into something else. Any advice on how I can use LinkedIn to help me – particularly on keywords, everyone mentions those? (DG, email).
